September 20th

Friends, family and supporters,
Everyone was up early and excited about our first Sunday in Malawi. We did not have Escom so Grace boiled water over coals and she and Sheila made mush. We had plenty of juice, bread, butter and jam God is good and He cares for us.
We left the house at a little after nine o’clock and arrived just before the 1000 start time. The choir was in full swing and I met and hugged many members who I have grown to love and miss when not here.
On the way over Rackson asked what I wanted to do preach or teach. I left it up to him as it is his pulpit. After introduction were made and everyone was welcomed the choir sang 3 songs and we had prayer and Rackson announced I would be teaching Sunday school, all the children departed to their classroom and Taylor was their teacher along with a young native named Don who was his interpreter.
As I took the platform with Rackson and made my remarks about being back at home I looked over the sea of faces and was over whelmed at how many were in attendance and they were still coming in as I was teaching. It was obvious I was in a
Baptist church, start time is only a target not the goal. They continued to arrive all through the service. Very many of the members have a long way to walk to get there. At the close of my lesson over two hundred were seated and ready for the remainder of Sunday worship service. My text was taken from John 11:1-44 the point being we were all dead in sin and Jesus raised us from the dead as sure as He did Lazarus. After a short break service reconvened with much singing, prayer and the tithe was taken up. When it was time for the man of God to preach Rackson announced that he had decided to preach a lesson other than to one he had prepared for that day. He said while he was interpreting for me God gave him thoughts on what I was teaching and he went on to preach John 11:1-44 with the point being, we have to remove the stone and when called out and when loosed and then go forth, it was outstanding in all respects and good to be there. After shaking hands with about 350 brethren, the place was SRO for service we departed at 1330 and got home to a meal of cold rice, cheese, pickles and Bologna as we still were without power. After some much needed rest it was decreed we would go out for a meal, one there was little to eat that would not need to be cooked and two Grace said it was every man for himself as far as she was concerned so we went out. On the way back from town we were involved in a very big traffic tie-up so Rackson did some very creative off road driving and we got home just as the power came on. Only warm water as the geezer (like a water heater) was off all day but with the heat, wind, dust and road dirt it
was wonderful. Tomorrow, Monday we will be getting prepared for the conference and have a lot of shopping to do and I will let you know how that went in the next installment of the Malawi adventure.

September 19th, 2015

 Friends, family and supporters,
We were awaken this morning to the sounds of songbirds in the nearby trees, normally that would be wonderful only problem the birds get up at zero dark thirty. Some blessings are too early. Other blessing are right on time. We had water and Escom at the same time. Because this is Saturday and the kids are home from school we could have slept a little later but…(songbirds).
Grace fixed a fine breakfast and we had good, hot coffee in abundance and much talk about this last year and how the Lord has blessed this ministry. Our plan for this day is to head out to a nearby village, one that is close to Njuli and have service. Although a lot has happened since the last e-mail, we were shopping in Limbe for some things needed for our stay here and on the way home the front end of the van began making strange noises, there is no such thing as a funny noise here in Malawi. Bottom line we lost the bushings on the passenger side for the tie rods and whatever else holds the wheels on. The rest of the day was spent in a hot van securing parts from many parts stores, no one store has all the parts needed.  Rackson has a friend who is a mechanic so we met him and took him to our place and he started work on the van. Could not finish before dark so he went home.
It is now Saturday and he is back and at work. I will let you know how our plans worked out after we get back later this evening.
The mechanic came early and after two plus hours the van is road ready, I hope. And we will be going out to the village soon.
We left the house around 1400 and after a 90 minute drive we arrived to the sound of singing. The village was off the main road several miles past Njuli but set way off in the low hills. There were about 30 adults and about the same number of young people. After introductions and a short service we split up the adults and children, I took the adults and Taylor Cook taught the children. This was his first time and what better way to learn to swim than being tossed in the water and to no one’s surprise he did very well. The Word was preached and many heard the gospel for the first time and there was much response. God’s word has power when presented simply and clearly. The sun was getting lower in the sky and after a simple party in our honor we headed home with feelings of joy that we had been there and accomplished a work for the Lord. He blessed us with breezes all during service and that was good, I thought maybe too good for along with the breeze was a little more dust and sand than I like in my eyes and mouth but good is good.
At home the Escom was out so we read bible by torch light, the boys had prepared our meal while we were out so we enjoyed rice and beef tips in magic sauce, very good. Went to bed early as we were weary from the heat of the day and with no Escom no reason to stay up.
Sunday will come here soon enough and we want to be ready.
Till then, God bless and keep you.

Preparation for conference 2015

September 17, 2015
Friends, families and supporters,
Well we are here in Malawi warm and comfortable in the home of Rackson and Grace. We left Pensacola on time and full of energy. We reached Atlanta and had just enough time to get to our departing plane. The flight to Johannesburg was shorter than in the past only 15 hours and forty minutes(no additional stop). Every seat was full. It was an uneventful flight and when we arrived we were not so full of energy. For some reason we got by security and went straight out to waiting hotel rooms at the airport. The three of us were more hungry than tired so after check in we found a great restaurant called Muggs and Beans ate and headed back to our rooms. I must say they were wonderful rooms but very cold and that made taking a shower less than fun. Both Sheila and I had a fitful night’s sleep do to fatigue and time change. I am very grateful that we put in a wakeup call for 0630 for when the phone rang we were dead to the world. We were up and dressed and then I spent a fair amount of time trying to wake up Taylor, man that kid can sleep. Sheila remembered that by by-passing evening security and not getting our boarding passes we were in for a hard time getting on our plane. We went to the same restaurant as the night before and had a very good breakfast and went to face the music. I don’t believe what followed, we went to security (TSA) and explained what took place the night before, they were very friendly and apologized for not having us sign the log to by-pass having a boarding pass and let us through to the ticket area where the lady issued our passes and made sure our bags were indeed on the plane and there was no charge for the extra bags, in fact there was no charge for any of the bags. A savings of about $300.00. We boarded on time for our last leg of the trip to Malawi and being reunited with my family. What a wonderful meeting in the airport and drive home. We rested a little while and then began the unpacking process. Grace prepared a meal of fried chicken and chips and later biscuits and hot tea. We had no electricity but water so I had a nice shower and it was bed time.
We all got up early this morning. We had hot water so I took another hasty shower and got ready for prayer and bible study, Taylor led in both and it was very good. After breakfast we went downtown Blantyre for shopping for food, minutes for the phone, minutes for the computer and sat around the dining room table when we got back home and started our planning for the upcoming work. Much to do and I am ready to go. No electricity this afternoon but had it long enough to get dinner finished. Rackson started the generator and all is good. We will head for bead soon as we have a full day tomorrow and I don’t want to miss any of it. So I will sign off till next time sending my love and prayers to all of you.
W. Charles (Chuck) Miller along with Sheila and Taylor say good night.

Malawi Report for Christmas 2015

On Thursday the families Fullfords and Kaiwes went to the Blantyre landfill to pass out Christmas gift bags. Thankfully it was a windy day with clouds. The landfill has not changed much all the years we have been going to pass out bags; there are still piles of rotting eggshells, plastic bottles littered everywhere, broken glass covering the ground, let’s not forget the flies, and an unforgettable

aroma. Despite all that, it is still exciting to be there every year. These are an incredible group of people who Jesus loves. It was an honor to love them on His behalf knowing how much He loves us. John preached a salvation message, God knows their heart but as you can see in the pictures it was well received. Also Rackson took aside a large group and proceeded to preach Jesus. From the pictures it was successful. Thank you to those who support our family with prayers and monetary funds, you make this possible and share a part in our ministry. Please enjoy the pictures and remember it is your support that makes the preaching of the Word possible.
The way to the dump is right off the main road from Blantyre on the way to Njuli. You can smell it long before you see it and when it rains it is almost to much.
As you can see the main entrance is littered and that is where the hunt begins for useable items and food

The power of life is great and with water plants will grow almost anywhere adding a beauty in a not so beautiful place
once the preachers get set up the people come. I have no idea where the come from but God knows and loves them.
Rackson and John both know the hearts and needs of the people and always preach the appropriates message, the one laid on their hearts as only God can do.

after the message the gifts are handed out and as you can see the crowd is calm and receptive. It is not always so.
Rackson finished here and went back to Njuli and he and some of the members will prepare for their visit to a selected hospital to preach and teach and hand out gifts to the families. I have not received the pictures of that adventures but when I do I will send them to you.
God’s blessing extends to all the world but we here in America seem to have a double portion. Rackson was telling me how much better it will be when the ministry gets a lorry, bigger vehicle bigger ministry. That is why I end all my messages with “no messenger, no message”
